Orthopaedic Technologist

POSITION SUMMARY 

Orthopaedic Surgery, 7:30am- 4:00, 40 hours per week

  •  The Orthopedic Technologist is a trained member of the orthopedic team who works with all health care professionals in delivering patient care and assuming appropriate responsibilities concerning surgical and non-surgical procedures. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITES

  •  In conformance with the medical staff’s written orders, provides direct and indirect individualized skilled technical orthopedic care to patients by applying, adjusting, maintaining, and removing specified orthopedic equipment, devices, and appliances.
  •  Instructs patients and their families regarding utilization of orthopaedic equipment, devices and appliances. 
  •  Directly assists medical staff in the orthopaedic room, inpatient units and/or operating room. 
  •  Accepts telephone orders from the appropriate physician within the scope of his/her responsibility and in adherence to Elliot Hospital policies and procedures. Accepts verbal order only in emergency situations.
  •  Applies fracture braces on the written order of the physician. 
  •  Assists in daily functions of the office including but not limited to: exam room turnover, data entry, appointment scheduling and insurance per-certifications. 
  •  Works effectively with the medical staff, office staff, and administration. Supports a team approach to patient care, working directly with patients and families and maintains a cooperative working relationship interdepartmentally. 
  •  Serves as liaison between patient, physician, and family.
  •  Enhances professional growth and development through participation in education offerings.
  •  Maintains correspondence with outside agencies in regard to orthopedics 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  •  Ability to establish and maintain communications and positive working relationships within the department and with other hospital departments.
  • Ability to proceed along following standard practices for routine procedures. Questions or problems are referred to supervisor. 
  • Excellent communication skills.

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE/ LICENSURE

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a formal Orthopedic training program required or equivalent certification (ASOP) must be obtained within 3 months.
  • Experience: Previous clinical experience preferred. 
  • Certification/ Licensure: National Board of Certification of Orthopaedic Technologists or registered by the American Society of Orthopaedic Professionals preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, day shift
